Tales of true love
Are often told
By those much wiser than us
When we are young and the stories old

Of star-crossed Romeo and Juliet
Torn apart by hatred and despair
Or Lancelot and fair Guinevere
With a love few could ever share

These stories have changed over time
To make them seem romantic and bright
When in the original tellings
The peasant girl never gets her shining knight

Ariel the mermaid changes for her prince
But there is no happily-ever-after to come
He chooses the human of course
And the lovely, fin-ished princess turns to foam

Little Red Riding Hood
Off to bring her grandmother some good cheer
Isn't saved from the Big Bad Wolf
She is eaten, screaming in terror and fear

There is no fate, no destiny
There is no witch or wizard to cast a spell
Those who think otherwise
Just live in a twisted, painted shell

Robin Hood is a fraud
No one looks out for the poor
Oh?
You aren't sure what to believe anymore?

Well how about this then.
Take everything happy with a handful of salt
Then throw it in life's eyes and run
That's what this tough woman was taught

If I want love, I will find it on my own terms
Because there are no princesses, Camelots or knights brave and true
Screw your kingdom, tragedies, love stories and magic
The only good thing about having a head in the clouds is the view.
Do not use/alter without my express permission. Thank you in advance.

This. Is.
Oh my, i'm lost for words. This is so awesome- so strong and straightforward. I love that you included the little mermaid story, the REAL version. Even though it's sad and melancholy.
It does leave me feeling slightly low, which is a good thing, because it seems it is meant to be portayed that way.

I can feel the boldness in your words and the reasoning behind them. Fantastic work yet again
